Interesting.articles@linuxfordevices.com: WhiteFi - Internet over analog TV...
the concept is sound, but not new... when I find the article I read a while back about a senator who proposed using unused analog tv stations for this, I will post it here... for now, we can give M$ some of the credit...

No Microsoft did not even think of the idea.  There's a institute in Australia who worked on the concept to try to achieve 100Mb/s.  Here's an up to date info.  The white spaces technology is developed by 8 companies in a consortium with MS only developing the...you guessed it...protocol (so that it works better with windows of course).

Also we discussed in June, long before Microsoft got an interest in it.

yeah, I remember that thread (think I started that one)... gotta work on my internet sarcasm. Tongue  Just wanted the crew to see how easily someone who has no merit tries to take credit for something they didn't do..  I hope a few of "our buddies" are in the mix keeping us compatible and functional in that area as well...

Once the protocol is established, it will be pretty simple to convert it.  The drivers for the new wifi cards however are a different story.

I'm sure there's someone around there who is quietly making sure that a couple of linux drivers make it out the back door before production begins...

I think that is an interesting article that people should know. It is true that our experiments show that even a single packet transmission causes audible interference during wireless microphone transmission. Experiments Coursework then should be done in a very careful manner.

TCP/IP, is what. Send it over tin-can telephones if you want.

We (ham radio community) had packet satellites operating as mail-boxes many, many years ago.
The protocol is what, nearly 30yrs old?

p.s. analog TV is going the way of the do-do bird ... enormously inefficient, AM video
p.s.2 low-power HF radio works great with digital ... but forget about bandwidth/through-put; that's the trade-off.
