After watching this video http://unity-linux.org/video-of-unity-linux-2010-beta-2/ I saw that sneekylinux had problems shutting down Smart, he comments about having to click twice to get it to close. I know that all that is happening is that it is saving the cache as per the message in the status bar at the bottom, however if you do not notice this, it does seem that it is not closing so you try clicking again. If this message could be in a pop up box then it would be obvious what was happening. The same would be good for startup when it is loading the cache, as it seems unresponsive unless you see the message. The delay may not be very noticeable on a fast machine but on a slow one it can take a few seconds.

A patch is ready here: http://issues.unity-linux.org/index.php?do=details&task_id=293
Please test. I am still not decided if it's worth adding to Smart package.

Thank you, I cut and pasted the patch into the appropriate spot and It works.

I personally think it's worth adding in, it doesn't change or impair functionality in any way but it does improve the users experience.

OK, you've convinced me.
The patch is likely to appear in the next Smart release.

It always did shut down with one click, it just didn't seem to be as it was saving the cache, if you didn't notice the message at the bottom of the window, you may have thought it needed another click, by the time you clicked again, it was ready to shut down so it looked as if the second click had done the trick. My suggestion just puts the message in a pop up so it is more noticable, it changes nothing functionally.
