ok, I just installed kde4 on the 3.7 build and all packages were available from smart without need for external packages.

Besides a few minor aesthetic issues it is working properly and can be setup reasonably quickly into a working system (it took me 1h to set it to my liking).

I'd be curious to hear others experience.

How did you do it? I treid using task kde4. I have refreshed the ibiblio repo but got an error message saying no package provides mandriva theme screensavers.

Hi gettinther .
So you have asked for the users to give some feedback on the install
process of the system.
from what I have find is there will be A big problem in the installation
of the KDE in that point of time of the system.
the reasons is between Gnome-KDE.
as you can see in the screens when you want to install KDE,
It will get delete Gnome to the end.
For my way of looking on the install process,
I think it will be beter to pot some kind of script that will take care
of all the dependants of the installation process.
And not to count on the user to do so.
the next thing is with the 2 part of coming back after the process
then you can not go in to the c center.
one more thing gettinther .
I understand the log in window, bot it will be beter to low the
number of the desktop that provide and make the system more
rail able for work.

I'm glad that you have change server for the iso download
work allot beter then 2 days ago more faster.
And smart work ok.
I think YUM will make A beter job as the package manager.
Fedora work real fast with YUM and install,update....

So my point is that there must be more scripts install from the begining
And do not count on the user to get things done like you and the team see it.
the user need more auto process on the Q of the desktop installation.

gettinther , here you have the process of the installation and the errors
that pop up in the process.
I did not edit any screen shot so you can see the problem and get them fix.( I hope  Wink)

move to root=root

Thank you
Amir.

Amir, change your login manager to KDM after you install KDE4, that is more than likely your issue... I don't think GDM likes KDE...

Hi CPUnltd .

the way I see it ,the problem for me is the driver of INTEL,
as I have mention in the other post of the vbox flier.
it is not as seams the log in manager.
just my opinion on the issue.

I have made some test on my station's,(3) of them.
with 2-Nvidia=no problem.INTEL=problem.

ok, I understand the situation a little better now... maybe someone could look into finding a patch for .29 to hold us over until .31 becomes a viable upgrade...

I will be attempting to install KDE 4 on my EeePC this evening. I have a very slow connection but I would like to put out a test ISO and start development on my own KDE 4 based Branch focused on our little buddies. So hopefully all goes well. I will keep this thread updated on any install experiences I have. Thanks for all the hard work, sorry I haven't been able to contribute that much.

Okay so I installed KDE 4, using "smart install task-kde4-minimal"
 It downloaded around 300 packages.

My issues so far:
1. For some reason it seems fndSession wasn't ran (should be ran in the rpm that provides 01KDE). This updates the session files in wmsession.d so they come up in KDM.

2. It seems lxde is still loading in the background

That's it I will add more as I come across them.

Jmiahman,

Don't do too much yet.  The 3.7 build relied heavily on Tinyme and as such carried a lot of hacks and scripts that affect things (like the autostart sequences).  I'm cleaning all that at the moment.

As KDE 4.3 RC2 is now available, you might be interested in trying that out.
