I like those ideas eric, especially the Unity symbol from mathematics. I'm just geeky enough to dig that!
My only thoughts is that those are "generic" enough to risk copying another distro's symbol (since they are essentially just circles and squares). Is there a central repository somewhere that has various logos displayed? I know distrowatch does, but not together (just on that distro's page).
My $0.02
Yeah, I have no idea. I would say, tilt the angle of the circles, throw in Unity Linux in the circles and who knows? Like I said, I'm not very good at these things. The other thought I had kind of looked like 3 parens kind of symbolizing unity, but that's my own open thought I think...I've drawn it before, but never tried to on a computer to symbolize it. That's nice, but now stylize it (use different colours, ect.)

I like that...and I agree, it needs a bit more stylization...to make it pop That's really a fantastic logo I think. I may post it to the developer mailing list to solicit some responses once you have 2.0 up

I think eric's logo looks good, and can definetely be made to not look like the Acrobat logo.
c.wrinn has a pretty good logo there. Looks unique from what I've seen too.

No need to worry about me, I'm talentless!! But like I said, red on white...it's just something I threw in paint!

Talentless people... have no ideas. You had one, so.. that makes you talented. There are many levels to talent... one of them being the ability to communicate an idea visually (which you have accomplished)

Guys ... have any of you browsed for the word unity and unity+logo on google image ?
You will see that logo featuring triangle/hands are freaking popular in relation to this word ... the allusion to a planet / Spirals is also well present ... If i personally focussed on the ring+sphere & additional text its in the perspective of creating something unique ...
I will personally avoid the frontal ring design that some may consider as a direct allusion to PCLinuxOS logo ... which was a great asset to the distro's success.
Eye candy is not all in a logo ... please ! Being constructive is important ... They are more pictures possible than words we may speak or invent... The task of logotyping and branding any product is not something futile and can't rely on enthusiasm and personal flavor only...
We need something 1 : unique 2 : fresh 3 : Beautifully
I saw nothing like that yet ! Including my "sketches".
