We have some information gathering and distribution ideas that have been tossed around, with the liaison and PR concepts. A magazine could also be done pretty easily imo.
As changes are filtered up into the wiki from the forum or anywhere else, they are recorded in a kind of a changelog. This changelog may be a trivial thing to implement, as I'd already like to see some simple link and snippet dumping mechanisms and those could easily track the date.
That changelog is taken, and the actual cleaned-up docs (if any) from the wiki are used and combined with proper articles, editorial pieces, news reports and the like.
Simple enough.

Would this be monthly? Bi-weekly?

the mag could also include new branch introductions, highlights on branches, if any other them get high brow recognition (like if SMG gets used at Universal Studios or something like that) as well as tips and tricks to doing cool things in whatever branches wish to add to the mag... Oh, and images of cool custom systems built with branches! I could see that being a nice addition to the mag!

Also, the magazine works best if it is community controlled, with no developer on staff.

I suppose the devs could just maintain a changelog and the main wiki docs, and the community could set up whatever they'd like. We could provide some hosting if that's needed.
This would be good to pursue after a launch.

Hi Guys Dai from the old PCLosmag I used to do the layout. If you are looking for help with a magazine I'd like to offer my services. let me know if you are intersted. I like this Unity concept of a core with loads of different distros. a magazine covering all th edifferent distros and there communities sounds good.

Well, all help's welcome. Have a look around guys and if you want to get involved you can join the dev team anytime. The dev mailing list is now fully opened to user interaction and comments are welcome (as long as they are helpful, lol). We have started migrating the discussions to the new list and it should go into full swing really soon now.

there will also be a documents mailing list that you can be a part of (deciding on what to name it at the moment) which will cover all forms of documentation and PR efforts... glad you chose to come hang with us!

I'd like to echo this statement. Your set up is one of core distro for others to develop there's from. I'd like to do a mag covering all the distros, news and views, articles, to do this it would need to be independent. These are my thoughts on it, I'd like to hear you your thought on the subject.

I'm all for it, willing to do a second interview (spiral has done some of the footwork you might plan on doing, so to avoid too much double duty, consult spiral on all the info he has gathered and all he has setup for the documents team and take things from there...)

Also, it would be pretty easy to swing a 'wiki' based magazine that also has a pdf release and include that right there on http://docs.unity-linux.orgAnd it could get started right away...interviews with developers and what is planned for unity could take up the first 2-3 months of magazine releases
